Wooden items sourced from Europe:
One of the oldest and most widespread handicrafts in Europe is making woodenware. Handcrafted wooden products have a long tradition and are closely connected with nature.
Almost 60% of certain areas in Europe are covered by forest. In recent decades, the proportion of forests have been increasing, since every year over one million trees are planted. More than a third of some European territory is protected and included in the European Natura 2000 network, which protects biodiversity.
Even in today's era, dominated by electronics and plastic timber, wood remains one of the most desirable and sought-after materials. Beech is an important and widely-used hardwood in Europe and known for its hardness, wear-resistance, strength and excellent bending capabilities. Boxwood is well-suited for carving and turning and is ideal for producing small specialty items. These wood species are not listed in the CITES Appendices or on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
Made from unbleached and untreated wood, these products will darken to a golden hue as the fats from the food enrich the surface.
Caring for your wooden kitchen utensils:
Wooden items used for serving and preparing food should be washed under running water by hand. They should never be immersed in water or washed in a dishwasher, as soaking may cause the wood to warp or split. They should be dried immediately with a towel, not left to drain.
